Why Volunteers Matter
NEAHS started with 26 people who showed up because they saw something that needed doing. Fifty-five years later, that's still true. Our staff can't do this alone, and they've never had to. Every walked dog, every cleaned kennel, every hour at an adoption event comes from someone who chose to help.
How Volunteering Works
Getting started takes less time than you'd think. Here's what happens between applying and your first shift.
1. Apply
Fill out a short volunteer application so we can learn what you're interested in.
2. Orientation
Attend a brief orientation to learn shelter procedures and safety guidelines. You'll also complete a short paperwork and liability form before your first shift.
3. Get Scheduled
Volunteer shifts run 8:30 AM–12:00 PM and 1:30 PM–4:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. We're currently accepting a limited number of volunteers per shift, so we'll work with you to find a time that fits.
Find Your Role
Walk dogs, socialize cats, and help animals get comfortable and adoption-ready.
Help at adoption events, community fairs, and fundraisers throughout the year.
Assist with feeding, grooming, and daily care for our rescued horses.
Help with kennel cleaning, laundry, dishes, and daily shelter upkeep.
